Nursing mothers gathered by a bus stop in Taylor, Michigan last week in support of an area mom, Afrykayn Moon, who was told by a bus driver to cover up, stop breastfeeding, or get off the bus. Ms. Moon is a member of the Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association, and is working to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding. In Michigan, nursing mothers’ are protected from indecency laws, but little else. State Sen. Rebekah Warren is introducing legislation to prevent discrimination against breast-feeding women in that state.
This news story seems to have sparked a debate around the internet over whether or not breastfeeding in public is acceptable – an arugment that we seem unable to get past. HuffPo, and others, are sponoring open polls.
In other news, Posh Spice, I mean, Victoria Beckham is planning on breastfeeding her daughter, who will be born in the coming weeks! Her three older boys were fed with formula – but Victoria says that she wants to get it right with her daughter.
